At the 2025 Berlin Open quarter-final, Aryna Sabalenka delivered one of the most thrilling comebacks of her career. Trailing by four match points, the world No. 1 showed why she remains at the top of women’s tennis.
Sabalenka Saves Four Match Points
Down 6-2 in the final-set tiebreaks, Sabalenka faced defeat. Then everything changed, Aryna Sabalenka reeled off six consecutive points, including four match-point saves, to win the set 8-6 and secure the 7-6(6), 3-6, 7-6(6) victory.
“This is crazy comeback,” she reflected. “I think I just got lucky.. I remember when i was starting, winning matches being down match points.. Here I am.”
Grit and Power Define Her Season
With this victory, Aryna Sabalenka advances to her eighth semifinal of the year. Her resilience echoes performances from earlier Grand Slams: two Australian Open titles, a US Open win, and a runner-up finish at the French Open.
This Berlin performance also improves her head-to-head record against Rybakina to 7-4.
What’s Next: Vondrousova Challenge
Next up is former Wimledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. Sabalenka praised her opponent: “She’s tricky, lots of slices,” and said she’s “excited” for the challenge.
The German capital often teases comebacks, and this match cemented that reputation. For Aryna Sabalenka, it’s proof that no battle is over until the last point is won.
