Evacuations were issued Monday afternoon as crews battled a Laguna Beach fire that ignited in brushy ravine residential areas.

Named the Rancho Fire, it broke out around 2:15 p.m., threatening homes near La Mirada Street, Katella Street, Summit Drive, and Baja Street. By 3:30 p.m., the Laguna fire had grown to roughly 3 acres.

Firefighters quickly responded with helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and ground crews, using both water and flame retardant to contain the blaze and protect nearby properties.

By 3:45 p.m., officials said crews were gaining control, and immediate danger to structures had decreased. An evacuation warning also extended to the Arch Beach Heights neighborhood.

The cause of the Laguna Beach fire is still under investigation due to further comments on its cause.
