Jonestown police have ordered the closure of Lake Travis due to continued flooding recovery and public safety risks. The lake remains off-limits to all activity until further notice.

Authorities in Jonestown have shut down Lake Travis, one of the region’s most popular recreational destinations, citing serious safety concerns and ongoing recovery operations. The closure, issued by court order early Saturday, affects all recreational, commercial, and navigational activities.

The decision follows the deadly July 4 weekend flooding in Travis County, which claimed nine lives. As of Friday night, four individuals remain missing.

Fines and Jail Time for Violations

Police emphasized that the closure in enforceable by law. Anyone found on the lake in violation of the order may face of up to $1,000 or up to 180 days in jail.

“We urge everyone to respect the closure for you safety, the safety of others, and to protect the safety of recovery crews,” Jonestown police posted on Facebook.

Authorities have not given a timeline for when the lake may reopen, as recovery efforts continue.
