Border Patrol Agent Killed not confirmed after off-duty agent wounded, suspect fled the scene.
The shooting of Border Patrol Agent Killed turn out misleading, as an off-duty Border Patrol agent was shot in the face and arm in Fort Washington Park, but is expected to survive, officials said.
The shooting happened just before midnight Saturday under the George Washington Bridge, where the 42-year-old agent was sitting with a companion. NYPD says two suspects on a scooter approached; the passenger fired first. The agent returned fire and was hit, but is now in stable condition at Harlem Hospital.
Police quickly identified the suspect that tried to get the Border Patrol Agent killed, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, and undocumented Dominican man with a deportation order and a criminal record, including domestic violence and robbery. Nunez was captured after walking into a Bronx Hospital with matching gunshot wounds and is now in custody. His accomplice remains at large.
DHS says video from security cameras helped identify the suspect and confirm that the agent drew his weapon in self-defense. Authorities do not believe the agent was targeted for his job and are now charging the suspect with assault and weapons offenses.
