Gifford Fire Becomes California’s Largest Wildfire of 2025 as Blaze Rages Uncontrolled

Gifford Fire

SOLVANG, Calif. — The Gifford Fire has exploded to 83,933 acres with just 9% containment, making it California’s most destructive wildfire this year. The inferno, burning through Los Padres National Forest since Friday, has forced evacuations across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties as over 1,000 structures remain threatened.

Nearly 2,000 firefighters are battling the flames, with helicopters deploying massive water drops to reinforce containment lines. Officials warn that 20 mph winds expected Tuesday could undermine progress, while hotter temperatures later this week may intensify the blaze.

The fire’s smoke has now drifted into Nevada, blanketing Las Vegas in hazardous haze that could linger for days. Meanwhile, two new fires—the 1,658-acre Rosa Fire and 991-acre Gold Fire—have erupted in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, further straining resources.

Authorities confirm all three fires remain under investigation.
