Miami police have identified the man killed in a Coconut Grove shooting on Wednesday and are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. at Southwest 37th Avenue and Southwest 33rd Street, police said. Paramedics transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Authorities identified him on Friday as 30-year-old Robert Denardes Whittle Jr.
Another man was injured in the incident but declined medical treatment at the hospital.
A nearby resident described his reaction to the shooting, saying it was “surprising to see” but, unfortunately, violence in the area has become more common. “And disheartening, I mean, to say the least… it’s a vibrant community. There’s a lot of families here and stuff, and hopefully it’s something that changes in the future,” he said.
Miami police are treating the case as a homicide and are offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with details that could help investigators is urged to contact Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
