A law enforcement raid on Tucson’s Westside forced the closure of the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind on Friday morning.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Marana police, and the state gang task force carried out the operation, which authorities confirmed was linked to drug activity. Officers began gathering at the scene at around 6:30 a.m., according to reports from the location.
The focus of the multi-agency raid was a home in the 1100 block of Yucca Drive. At approximately 10:30 a.m., an armored vehicle equipped with a battering ram breached the residence, creating two holes in the exterior wall.
Officers used at least one K9 unit and a robotic dog during the search. Officials stated that at least one individual was taken into custody in connection with the investigation.
The Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind, situated just east of the residence, was placed on lockdown as a precaution during the operation.
