President Donald Trump departed for the United Kingdom on Sept. 16 for a three-day visit that will combine state pageantry with policy talks on nuclear power, technology, and trade.

This marks Trump’s second state visit to the UK. He previously traveled in 2019 during his first term. The trip follows an invitation from the royal family extended earlier this year during Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s White House visit.

After his Tuesday evening arrival, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are set to travel to Windsor Castle on Sept. 17. There, they will meet Prince William and Princess Catherine, followed by lunch with King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The couple will also lay a wreath at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb in St. George’s Chapel before joining a ceremony with military families and attending a state banquet.

Camilla’s attendance remains uncertain as she recovers from sinusitis, and protests are expected outside Windsor Parish Church, organized by the Stop Trump Coalition.

On Sept. 18, Trump and Starmer will hold a bilateral meeting and joint press conference, followed by a business reception highlighting a new $10 billion U.S.-UK science and technology partnership. The First Lady and Queen Camilla are scheduled for separate events, including tours of Windsor Castle and Frogmore House alongside the Princess of Wales.

The White House said the visit underscores historic U.S.-UK ties as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. Senior Trump officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, are part of the delegation./link

Policy announcements are expected alongside the ceremonies. Trump and Starmer will unveil nuclear energy cooperation, including joint deployment of reactors and a memorandum to streamline plant construction. The UK aims to cut dependence on Russian nuclear fuel by 2028. The agenda also includes defense technology initiatives.

Trade talks are also on the table. The two nations signed a trade deal in May that set a 10% tariff baseline on imports and lowered auto tariffs. Steel and aluminum tariffs remain at 25%, and Starmer hopes to reduce them.

The visit comes amid controversy over former UK ambassador Peter Mandelson, dismissed last week following reports of past ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump himself continues to face questions about unreleased Justice Department records related to Epstein.

Ukraine is expected to be a private topic of discussion. Starmer recently joined European leaders in Washington alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin failed to yield progress.

Trump’s schedule concludes with a return flight to the United States on Sept. 18. Days later, he will travel to Arizona for the Sept. 21 memorial of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, where he is expected to deliver remarks.
