Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the fourth round of the 2025 French Open after a taxing four set match against Damir Dzumhur. The second seeded Spaniard triumphed with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, overcoming a spirited challenge from the 33 year old Bosnian.
Alcaraz began the match with dominance, clinching the first sets with relative ease. However, Dzumhur, despite dealing with a leg injury that required medical attention during the third set, mounted a remarkable comeback. He captured the third set and even broke Alcaraz’s serve in the opening game of the fourth.
The match saw Alcaraz committing several unforced errors, particularly on his forehand, leading to moments of visible frustration. Nevertheless, he managed to regain composure, breaking back in the sixth and eighth games of the fourth set. Despite Dzumhur’s resilience, Alcaraz closed out the match, acknowledging the mental and physical demands of such encounters.
With this victory, Alcaraz advances to face Ben Shelton in the next round, continuing his quest to defend his title at Roland Garros.
