The Spaceballs universe is officially expanding! A sequel is underway, confirmed on June 12, 2025, and bringing back core cast members while welcoming fresh talent.
Amazon MGM Studios has green-lit Spaceballs 2, teasing its release in 2027. The sequel carries an intentionally convoluted subtitle: “a Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film” pure Brooksian satire.
- Rick Moranis return as the inimitable Dark Helmet, marking his first live action role in nearly 30 years.
- Bill Pullman reconnects with fans as Lone Starr, reprising his space roaming hero.
- Mel Brooks, now 98, will once again don the robes of Yogurt and produce the film alongside Josh Gad.
Joining the comedic reboot is Keke Palmer, whose recent breakout in One of Them Days landed her a role in his intergalactic spoof.
Josh Gad returns not only to co-write and co-produce but likely appears on-screen, sharing both creative and starring duties.
Josh Greenbaum, best known for Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, will direct, with co-writers Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez penning the script.
Production prep is underway, with shooting expected to begin late 2025 or early 2026. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the tone remains faithful to the original’s sharp, parody rich spirit.
This marks a rare instance of Rick Monaris returning to live-action film his first since 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and a reunion of Mel Brooks and original stars. The Spaceballs brand has had cult status since 1987, and a sequel this faithful has fans celebrating.
