CJ Mosley Announces Retirement After 10 Seasons

C.J. Mosley announced retirement.

Five-time All-Pro CJ Mosley, a dominant linebacker for both the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, officially announced his retirement from the NFL, as reported by Aphura. The 33-year-old, whose birthday coincided with the announcement, informed CBS Sports of his decision on June 19, 2025, bringing an end to a decorated ten-year career.

Drafted 17th overall by the Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft, Mosley quickly rose to elite status with four straight Second-team All-Pro selections (2014, 2016-2018) and earned four Pro Bowl nods during his first five seasons in Baltimore. In 2019, he signed a major five-year, $85 million contract with the Jets, where he remained a defensive cornerstone despite battling toe and neck injuries late in his career.

Mosley’s career stats speak volumes: 1,083 tackles, 12 sacks, 12 interceptions, and consistent leadership as the heard of each defense he led. His Pro Bowl selections spanned two teams, Baltimore and New York, emphasizing his impact across multiple phases of his career.

Last season, Mosley was limited to just parts of four games, ultimately losing the starting middle linebacker job and being released by the Jets in March due to lingering toe and neck issues. Despite expressing initial intentions to recover and continue playing, he opted to retire on his 33rd birthday, an emotional milestone marking both beginnings and endings.

His retirement leaves a void in the Jets’ leadership structure. Young linebacker Quincy Williams, who played 116 tackles last season, now assumes a central role in the revamped Jets defense, under head coach Aaron Glenn and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
