Benicia Fire burns 166 acres along Lake Herman Road in Solano County

Herman Fire in Solano County grows to 166 acres, remains uncontained.

The Benicia Fire, also known as the Herman Fire, has burned 166.9 acres in Solano County, California, as of Friday afternoon, with an increase of 87 acres since the previous update.

According to Cal Fire, the wildfire began at 1:41 p.m. along Lake Herman Road and remains uncontained. Suppression operations are being managed under a unified command between the Benicia Fire Department and the Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit.

Crews on the ground are attempting to establish control lines to slow the spread. The affected area is being monitored through live footage provided by AlertCalifornia, showing current fire activity and smoke movement.

Ground teams are reporting progress to central command, where mapping crews are tracking containment as sections of the fireline are completed and reinforced. No official containment percentage has been released, and officials continue to watch for changes in fire behavior.

Cal Fire explained that containment in wildfire management refers to the portion of the fire’s perimeter secured by a completed control line, which can prevent further spread. The agency noted that containment does not mean a fire is extinguished, stating, “The percentage tells the public how much of the fire perimeter is believed not to go beyond the control lines.”
