Officials have released the names of the seven people killed in a fireworks warehouse explosion that shook Esparto, California, just days before Independence Day.

Names of California Explosion Victims Released

The explosion occurred on July 1, 2025, at a pyrotechnics storage facility in Esparto, about 40 miles from Sacramento. The blast triggered a chain of violent explosions and plumes of thick smoke, according to Cal Fire and local first responders.

The Yolo County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the seven victims:

  • Angel Mathew Voller, 18, of Stockton
  • Jesus Manaces Ramos, 18, of San Pablo
  • Jhony Ernesto Ramos, 22, of San Pablo
  • Joel Jeramias Melendez, 28, of Sacramento
  • Neil Justin Li, 41, of San Francisco
  • Carlos Javier Rodriguez-Mora, 43, of San Andreas
  • Christopher Goltiao Bocog, 45, of San Francisco

Ongoing Investigation

Cal Fire confirmed the site was operated by a licensed pyrotechnics company, but investigators are still determining whether it was in compliance with state and federal explosive storage laws.

“This type of incident is very,” Cal Fire stated last week, while noting that the cause is still under investigation.
