In a devastating explosion in Los Angeles on the Fourth of July, a residential neighborhood in Pacoima was rocked by an illegal fireworks detonation that left one man dead, a woman critically injured, and several homes destroyed. The explosion in Pacoima Los Angeles occurred just after 9 p.m. on Corcoran Street. Firefighter arrived to find three single-story homes already engulfed in flames. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the explosion originated from a detached garage where fireworks were being stored.
As flames spread, more than 130 firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze and protect surrounding homes from catching fire. Unfortunately, due to continuous firework ignitions, firefighters were forced to keep their distance while the fire escalated.

“It was worse than an earthquake,” said Juan Garcia, a local resident who rushed out to record video and put out small fires nearby. “My whole body was shaking.”

“We are encouraging people to leave the fireworks to the professionals. California is not the place for illegal fireworks especially with the dry vegetation.”
