The upcoming F1 movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, is set to hit theaters this month, and its authenticity shines, principally thanks to seven time champion Lewis Hamilton, who joined the film as a co-producer and hands-on technical advisor.
Produced by Apple and Warner Bros, the F1 movie launcher internationally on June 25, 2025, with a U.S. release on June 27. Kosinski director of Top Gun: Maverick revealed he reached out first to Hamilton seeking realism. Hamilton, through his Dawn Apollo production company, shaped key story elements, ensured technical accuracy in driving and audio, and coached Brad Pitt, who play Sonny Hayes, and co-star Damson Idris on the specifics of racing dynamics and track strategy.
Kosinski highlighted Hamilton’s deep input, recalling how corrected gear and engines cues “If Brad’s going to let someone pass during a blue flag… only do that a turn six.” Meanwhile, producer Jerry Bruckheimer noted Hamilton’s insistence on authentic engine noise, even down to gear shifts during racing simulations.
The film is more than a typical sports drama. Shot during real Grand Prix weekends, its production spanned circuits from Silverstone to Spa to Monza, Brad Pitt and Damson Idris actually drove modified F2 vehicles at speeds reaching 180 mph further realism and emotional intensity.
Complementing the visceral visuals is a powerhouse soundtrack, build around Hans Zimmer’s score and featuring global artist Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat and Tiesto. Hamilton’s influence extended here too, encouraging musical diversity to amplify the film’s emotional pull and worldwide reach.
This meticulous approach has positioned F1 movie as a catalyst to boost the sport’s popularity in the U.S., capitalizing on the success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, while aiming to caputer mainstream audiences with cinematic flair and genuine racing sophistication.
As anticipation builds, the question is not whether the F1 movie delivers adrenaline fueled thrills it’s whether it triggers a new wave of fans for Formula One in North America. With Hamilton at the wheel behind the scenes and Pitt on track, expectations have never been higher.
