An Ocoee Police Department officer shot the driver of a vehicle near a Publix on Sunday while investigating a report of a stolen vehicle. Police said they were searching the area of 301 West Road when they located the stolen vehicle in the shopping plaza parking lot.
According to NBC affiliate WESH, the driver attempted to flee by driving directly toward the officers, striking one of them. Police said this prompted another officer to fire at the driver.
The driver was transported to AdventHealth hospital, where they were listed in critical condition. No officers were injured in the incident. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
