Actress Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Lucasfilm and parent company The Walt Disney Company over her 2021 firing from The Mandalorian.
The agreement resolves a lawsuit Carano filed in February 2024 in federal court in California, in which she claimed wrongful termination and discrimination following controversial social media posts. Carano was removed from the series after comparing the political divide in the United States to Nazi Germany, and facing criticism for mocking transgender people and mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved,” Carano said Thursday. “I hope this brings some healing to the force.” Settlement terms were not made public.
In her complaint, the actress and former MMA fighter alleged she was targeted for voicing her own opinions and resisting pressure from what she described as an “online bully mob” pushing progressive ideology.
Lucasfilm, in a 2021 statement, said Carano was no longer employed and had no future plans with the company, calling her social media posts “abhorrent and unacceptable” for denigrating people based on cultural and religious identities.
Carano also thanked Elon Musk and X for supporting her case, noting Musk’s pledge to help cover legal costs for employees who believed they were unfairly treated.
A Lucasfilm spokesperson said Thursday that Carano had been respected by directors, co-stars, and staff, adding that the company now looks forward to exploring opportunities to work with her again.
