On June 17, 2025, former NFL wide receiver Henry Ruggs was granted a special release from prison to speak at a “Hope for Prisoners” event at the Billy Walters Center for Second Chances in Las Vegas. The 26-year old Ruggs, convicted of felony DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter, offered a heartfelt apology to the family of Tina Tintor, the 23-year old woman he killed in a 2021 crash.

In a brief but powerful address, Ruggs said,

“I wish I could turn back the hand of time, I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something, I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news.”

Ruggs was driving at 156 mph, more than three time the Las Vegas speed limit with a blood alcohol content of 0.16%. His Corvette collided with Tintor’s car in November 2021, killing her and her dog, Max. He later pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison, becoming eligible for parole in August 2026.

During his release event, which allowed him a temporary departure from High Desert State Prison, Ruggs expressed deep regret and acknowledged the constant media focus on his case, explaining how it “constantly reminds” Tina’s family of the tragedy.

Reports confirm Ruggs is engaged in rehabilitation and trustee roles, including service at Nevada’s Governor’s Mansion, and aims to demonstrate genuine remorse and transformation. His apology, delivered in a room filled with inmates and facilitators focused on second chances, is being viewed as a sincere step toward personal accountability.

As Henry Ruggs continues his sentence, he remains eligible for parole next year. His speech highlights a complex, emotional path, between public condemnation, private remorse, and a hopeful journey toward redemption.

The impact of his words on Tina’s family and broader public perception will play a crucial role in shaping his future.
