FLORIDA — Democrat Josh Weil has officially withdrawn from his campaign for the U.S. Senate, citing ongoing health challenges that have led to multiple hospital stays and worsening symptoms.
Weil had planned to run against Republican U.S. Senator Ashley Moody and had previously competed in a special congressional election earlier this year, where he lost to Randy Fine.
In a letter to supporters, Josh Weil made clear what prompted his decision:
“After discussion with my family, I have decided to focus on my health first and foremost. Florida deserves a U.S. Senator who can fight for them 100% of the time. I do not wish to hold that seat if I cannot give them that 100% that they deserve.”
Although the full nature of his health issues has not been made public, Weil confirmed that symptoms worsened and required hospital treatment, making it impossible for him to continue the campaign. The timing of the withdrawal leaves Democrats in Florida in urgent need of finding a replacement candidate to challenge Senator Moody.
