Katy Perry brought her Detroit concert to an abrupt halt earlier this week when a young fan collapsed on stage moments after being invited up by the singer. The “Roar” performer had selected several fans from the crowd to join her mid-performance, including a girl named McKenna, who appeared emotional as Perry handed out instruments.
“Let’s practice. You got this and let’s breathe,” Perry told the group. Seconds later, McKenna fainted, prompting Perry and her crew to rush to her aid. The fan who recorded the moment told Storyful that McKenna had been overwhelmed by the excitement.
The girl was quickly escorted offstage for care. Perry, visibly shaken, gathered the remaining children for a group hug and led the audience in prayer, asking for McKenna’s full recovery. “It’s so much. Sometimes you’re so brave and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling,” she told the crowd. McKenna later recovered and returned to watch the rest of the show, with Perry showing kindness toward her.
The incident comes just weeks after another tense moment on Perry’s Lifetimes Tour, when a man stormed the stage during her “Hot N Cold” performance in Australia. Fan video showed the man grabbing Perry’s shoulder before she swerved away. Security intervened and removed him from the venue. The man was later arrested and charged with two offenses.
Perry, a former “American Idol” judge, resumed her Detroit performance after the episode, continuing the show for thousands of fans.
