
A school bus carrying more than 40 children and one adult on the first day of the new school year rolled onto its side in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, injuring 12 people, officials said.
The bus, from the Leander Independent School District in northwest Austin, was involved in the crash on Nameless Road in Travis County shortly after 3:15 p.m. local time, according to Austin-Travis County emergency services.

Officials confirmed 42 students and one adult were on board at the time. Photos from the scene showed the yellow bus overturned into an embankment surrounded by trees, with significant visible damage.
Of those injured, 12 were transported to a local hospital, while the others were taken to a reunification center for evaluation and to be reconnected with family.
Austin-Travis County officials said one person sustained a life-threatening injury, and two others had potentially life-threatening injuries. The remaining injured individuals were reported to have non-life-threatening conditions.
