Northwestern University is seeking help from the public to locate faculty member Nina Kraus, who was reported missing over Labor Day weekend.

Kraus, a professor in the School of Communication, was reported missing by her family on Monday, Sept. 1. “The University is hopeful that with the community’s help, we can find Professor Kraus and assure her safety,” the Chicago-area campus said in a statement.

According to the Evanston Police Department, Kraus, age 72, was last seen leaving her home for a walk around 9 a.m. on Sept. 1. She did not return, and her family reported her missing later that day.

Commander Ryan Glew told USA TODAY that police do not suspect foul play at this time. On Sept. 2, Evanston Police announced that a drone was flown along the lakefront “as part of a missing person investigation.” Glew confirmed the effort was intended to locate Kraus but said it did not produce any results. Another search is scheduled to take place this afternoon.

Police said Kraus was last seen wearing long pants and a windbreaker, along with a dark backpack. She was seen exiting her home in the 1500 block of Ashland in Evanston around 9 a.m. on Sept. 1.

Kraus is described as 5-foot-4 with a thin build, weighing 140 pounds. She has long silver hair and brown eyes.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.
