Attorney General Pam Bondi has dismissed at least 20 staffers connected to former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into former President Donald Trump, multiple sources confirmed on Saturday.

DOJ Staff Purge Sparks Concern
Sources familiar with the matter told ABC News that Bondi’s firings include both prosecutors and support personnel who were part of or aided Smith’s legal probes. While many were directly involved, others reportedly had minimal roles, including litigation assistants, administrative staff, and U.S. Marshals.
“Some of these individuals were merely support staff,” one source said, emphasizing that the scope of the firings was broad and not limited to senior legal figures.
The wave of terminations follows earlier purges of officials seen as loyal to Smith or critical of Trump. Most prosecutors involved in the Smith-led-investigations had already been removed in prior leadership changes.

According to internal sources, this latest move by Pam Bondi has intensified fear and frustration within the Department of Justice. Career employees, already wary from the Trump-era reshuffling, now fear further retribution or political targeting.
A DOJ spokesperson has not commented publicly on the situation.
