Steve Bannon, former chief strategist to President Donald Trump, lashed out at Elon Musk following the billionaire’s announcement of a new political group called the America Party. In a fiery rant on his War Room podcast, Bannon declared, “You’re not American,” citing Musk’s South African birth despite his U.S. citizenship.
The attack comes after Musk posted a July 4th poll asking followers whether they supported forming a new party, with 65.4% voting “yes.” Just days later, Musk formally announced the launch of the America Party, pledging to “give you back your freedom.”
Bannon responded furiously: “Only a foreigner could do this. You should be deported.” He mocked Musk as “Elmo the Mook” and accused him of criminal behavior.
Musk fired back on X: “The fat, drunken slob called Bannon will go back to prison and this time for a long time.”
Though Musk cannot run for president due to being foreign-born, he can back independent or third-party candidates. However, political experts caution that third parties rarely succeed in the U.S. electoral system. University of Portsmouth professor Dafydd Townley warned that Musk’s move could split the Republican vote, potentially giving Democrats the advantage.
The structure and leadership of the America Party remain unclear. Its ability to disrupt the traditional two-party system it yet to be seen.
