Authorities in Arkansas have launched a criminal investigation into what police are calling a suspected homicide after the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered along a hiking trail in Devil’s Den State Park in Washington County. The Arkansas State Police (ASP) confirmed that a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were found deceased on Sunday afternoon, prompting an immediate response from local and state investigators.
Victims Found in Remote Trail Area
The two victims were located on a walking trail within the popular state park, which lies in the Boston Mountains of northwest Arkansas. Authorities responded to the scene around 2:40 p.m. and confirmed both individuals were dead upon arrival. Their identities have not been released pending family notification. The bodies have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock, where medical examiners will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Suspect and Vehicle Description Released
Arkansas State Police have released a description of a suspect believed to be connected to the incident. The individual is described as a white male wearing dark-colored shorts, a dark tank top, and weight-lifting-style gloves. He was reportedly seen driving a black, four-door sedan near the park exit shortly after the time the bodies were believed to have been discovered.
Investigators say the vehicle’s license plate may have been obscured by duct tape or electrical tape. Authorities believe the car may have exited the area via State Highway 170 or State Highway 220, both of which run near Devil’s Den State Park. Law enforcement is urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle or the suspect in the area to come forward with information.
State Police Leading Homicide Investigation
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Arkansas State Police is now handling the case. In a statement released Sunday evening, the ASP referred to the incident as a “suspected double homicide,” although they stopped short of confirming any specific cause of death. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Devil’s Den State Park is a well-known recreational area that attracts thousands of visitors each year for hiking, camping, and sightseeing. The discovery of two bodies under suspicious circumstances has raised concerns among park-goers and local residents.
