
Tornike Rizhvadze remains in critical condition after using a stolen firearm to shoot himself while visiting a friend’s home in Sagarejo, according to Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office.

Unsecured Gun Leads to Tragedy
The incident occurred during a visit to the home of Alexi Akhvelediani. Authorities say Tornike Rizhvadze took a Glock pistol from an unsecured glass gazebo outside the residence. He then brought the weapon into a guest room and shot himself in the chest while alone.
Rizhvadze, the former chairman of the Adjara government, was rushed to the hospital and remains on life support in a stable but critical condition.

Following the investigation, Akhvelediani was charged under Article 238 of Georgia’s Criminal Code for negligent firearm storage resulting in grave consequences. The charge carries a sentence of up to three years in prison. He was detained immediately, and prosecutors plan to request preventive detention in court.
