Two Chicago teens face charges in stabbing that left a man critically injured.

Two teens were charged with aggravated battery in connection with the stabbing of a 39-year-old man, Chicago police said.

A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested Thursday at 2:14 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Merrimac Avenue. Authorities identified them as the suspects who, 10 minutes earlier, allegedly stabbed the man in the 6200 block of West Irving Park Road, leaving him in critical condition.

Police said the 17-year-old also assaulted a 37-year-old man during the same incident. Both suspects were taken into custody and formally charged.

The 17-year-old faces one felony count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault. The 16-year-old is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery.

It remains unclear whether the suspects and victims knew each other or what circumstances led to the stabbing, police said.
