Von Miller revealed his choice in the quarterback GOAT debate, siding with Peyton Manning over Tom Brady. The discussion often expands to names like John Elway, Joe Montana, and Johnny Unitas, but in the modern era, Manning and Brady are the main candidates.
Brady’s résumé includes seven Super Bowl wins in 10 appearances, far surpassing other quarterbacks. Manning, with two Super Bowl victories in four trips, still impressed Miller enough to earn his pick.
“There’s gonna be a debate between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who’s the best, you know, for me, it’ll always be Peyton Manning,” Miller said on Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel. “Peyton Manning, he changed the quarterback position from checking … He changed the play. Come on. Check the play. Change the play again. Go over the top. He wasn’t scrambling and doing that and stuff. He did it all with his arm, and it was beautiful, man.”
Miller also praised Brady’s record. “And Tom Brady obviously, seven Super Bowls over the years. I’ve gotten to know Tom Brady a little bit as well. And you know you root for Tom Brady too. Both of those guys are the greats, for sure.”
Manning has already been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, while Brady is expected to follow. Manning retired holding numerous passing records, finishing with 71,940 yards, 539 touchdowns, 251 interceptions, and a 65.3% completion rate. His 55 touchdown passes in the 2013 season remain a single-season record.
Brady retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in both passing yards and touchdowns, with 89,214 yards and 649 touchdown passes. Drew Brees sits second in both categories with 80,358 yards and 571 touchdowns.
The difference lies in championships. Brady reached 10 Super Bowls, nine with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning seven total. He secured six with the Patriots and one in his first year with Tampa Bay in 2020.
While Brady often had the upper hand against Manning, the two were close rivals. Manning holds a 3-2 advantage over Brady in AFC Championship Games. The debate ultimately comes down to perspective, but Miller made it clear he stands with Manning.
