White House launches official TikTok with Trump debut

White House opens TikTok account, debut video highlights President Trump prominently.

The White House launched its official TikTok account on Tuesday afternoon, featuring President Donald Trump in its first post.

The verified account, @whitehouse, gained thousands of followers within an hour. Its bio reads, “Welcome to the Golden Age of America.” The debut video is captioned, “America we are BACK! What’s up TikTok?” and places Trump at the center.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, “The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible. President Trump’s message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we’re excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before.”

The launch coincided with the Power 30 Awards party in Washington, D.C., a TikTok-sponsored event for influencers who supported Trump. The post included footage of Trump at rallies and major appearances. “Every day, I wake up determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation. I am your voice,” Trump said in a voice-over.

The White House also announced the move on X, confirming its arrival on the platform.

Trump created his personal TikTok account, @realdonaldtrump, in June 2024 as part of an effort to connect with younger voters. His debut video quickly went viral, generating millions of views and likes. His granddaughter, Kai Trump, rose to prominence on the app after her 2024 Republican National Convention speech, later posting behind-the-scenes White House content that helped her gain more than 3 million followers.

The launch of Trump’s personal account came nearly four years after he signed an executive order to ban TikTok unless it was sold to an American buyer. That order was blocked by a federal judge and never enforced.

In early 2024, Congress passed a law requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to divest or face a ban. On his first day in office, Trump issued an executive order directing the Justice Department not to enforce the ban for 75 days.
