A SharePoint attack over the past few days used a major flaw in Microsoft’s SharePoint software to breach government, corporate, and university servers around the world, officials say.
Hackers exploited a vulnerability of SharePoint that handles document sharing. U.S. federal and state agencies, universities, energy firms, and even an Asian telecom company were hit, according to security experts and state officials.
Authorities in the U.S. and partners in Canada and Australia have launched investigations into the SharePoint attack. With tens of thousands of severs at risk and no official patch yet, organizations are racing to lock down their systems.
